Sound Familiar?

You're not alone. And you don't have to figure it out by yourself.

You Accepted the First Number Last Time

You were so relieved to get an offer that you said yes immediately. Later, you found out peers with less experience negotiated significantly higher packages at the same company.

Afraid That Negotiating Will Backfire

You worry that asking for more will seem greedy, offend the recruiter, or cause them to rescind the offer. This fear costs engineers tens of thousands of dollars every year.

No Idea What the Compensation Bands Look Like

Without knowing the range for your level and role, you are negotiating blind. You might ask for too little or make unrealistic demands that hurt your credibility.

Learn From Engineers at Top Companies

Your next mentor could be a senior engineer at Google, a tech lead at Meta, or a principal at Amazon.

Got Questions?

Everything you need to know about Salary Negotiation

Can negotiating really get an offer rescinded?
In the tech industry, this is extremely rare. Companies expect candidates to negotiate and build room into their initial offers. Your mentor will teach you how to negotiate firmly but professionally so you never risk the relationship.
How much room is there typically in a tech offer?
It varies by company and component. Base salary typically has 5-15% room. Equity can have 10-30% room depending on the company and level. Sign-on bonuses are often the most flexible component. Your mentor will give you specific ranges for your target company.
I have no competing offers. Can I still negotiate?
Absolutely. Competing offers are just one form of leverage. Your mentor will help you identify and use other levers: market data, your unique value proposition, internal budget cycles, and the company's urgency to fill the role.
Should I negotiate base salary or equity?
The answer depends on your financial situation, risk tolerance, and the company's stock trajectory. Your mentor will analyze your specific situation and recommend the optimal negotiation focus. At many large tech companies, equity is where the biggest gains are made.
When should I have this session relative to receiving an offer?
Ideally, book a session as soon as you expect an offer, even before you receive it. If you already have an offer in hand, book immediately. Most offer deadlines are 1-2 weeks, and your mentor can help you prepare a strategy within a single session.
